J.J. Abrams is set to direct the new Star Wars film.
According to The Wrap, the fanboy favourite has finally decided to direct Episode VII. Back in November he told Entertainment Weekly that he wasn’t going to direct, but that Star Wars was the first movie that ”blew my mind” in terms of special effects.
Since making those comments, Lucasfilm Chief Kathleen Kennedy has been courting J.J. and it seems that the lure of the Force was too strong to miss. How this will affect the Star Trek franchise and Abrams relationship with Paramount is not known as he also serves as producer on the Mission Impossible series.
Of course this is all conjecture at the moment, but The Wrap has a history of breaking legitimate stories and is quoting an individual close to the production.
Is J.J. Abrams the right choice or would you prefer to see someone else guide the future of this loved series onwards?

This makes me really, really happy. I feel like I can trust Abrams not to completely destroy the franchise. And after Episodes 1 – 3, I can’t say I feel that way about Lucas.
